When the economy collapsed, an Italian aristocrat, a plant’s managing director, bought and renamed it Alfa. 24HP was the first Alfa Romeo car, even though its 4.1-liter engine only produced 25 horsepower. It is well-engineered and speedy, with wooden spoke wheels capable of reaching 62 mph.
Alfa is an acronym for “Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili,” which translates to “Lombard Automobile Factory Company.” It does not refer to a locality or even a name.
During the first world war, automobile manufacturers assisted in producing supplies for their respective countries. Alfa was unable to complete the changeover due to a lack of cash. Nicola Romeo stepped in to change it. He bought the company and gave it his name to rebrand it.
The Alfa Romeo is a tribute to the city of Milan. The cross on the left is from the Milanese coat of arms. At the same time, the snake on the right is from the Visconti family crest. The rulers of Milan were the Visconti family. In 1995, Alfa Romeo discontinued exporting automobiles to the US except for 100 examples of 8C Competizione sold around 2007. After a 20-year hiatus, the manufacturer restarted exporting cars to America.
